Nurse Next Door was created as a result of the personal experiences of the two co-founders, Ken Sim and John DeHart, trying to find the right caregivers for their family members. The two have since dedicated their lives to making people happier and making life easier for those who have to do the same.

Ken’s wife, pregnant with their first child, encountered unexpected complications and required emergency bed-rest. Meanwhile, John’s grandmother was suffering from dementia. The two had to find caregivers for their families but their search turned up some startling realities.

Finding a quality caregiver apparently wasn’t so easy. Home health care companies were sending caregivers who hadn’t been properly screened. These caregivers, who were supposed to be looking after the most important people in Ken and John’s lives didn’t have criminal record checks, reference checks or even medical examinations conducted. In one case, a company sent a caregiver who hadn’t even been interviewed into Ken’s home! 

Based on their personal experiences, Ken and John decided to start a home healthcare company that would provide high quality services that could help improve the lives of those struggling with sick or aging family members. Milton Wong joined them as their Chairman and Mentor with the mission to build a world class home health care services organization dedicated to providing senior care in the communities across Canada.

The two young entrepreneurs bought two cell phones, hired six caregivers, occupied a table at a local Starbucks and started to build their vision of a leading home healthcare company committed to improving the quality of life of their clients.

Since starting the company more than 5 years ago, Ken and John have built Nurse Next Door into BC’s largest home health care company and have it poised to become an industry leader North America wide. The two have spent the last five years dedicated to building a world class organization and making senior’s lives better one visit at a time!
